Raising Your Hand

I'm sure all of you remember what it was like to be in school (especially elementary school), and you had your four or five classroom rules. I'm also sure everyone had some kind of rule about raising your hand. In fact, I actually remember having to copy this rule 250 times in the seventh grade for talking during the announcements one time. Well, I also have this particular rule in my classroom. My students are pretty good at obeying this rule, but I have one student who is exceptionally good at following this rule. He's so good at following this rule, it actually drives me a little crazy. This student raises his hand on average anywhere from 50-75 times a day. You may think I'm exaggerating, but I am not. I have to tell him many many many times a day just to put his hand down. He raises his hand in class while I'm teaching, while he's doing work, while he's in line for the bathroom, while he's in line for lunch, while he's eating lunch....and I could go on. Maybe I should make up a new rule: Raise your hand before speaking but you only get to speak 10 times a day.

Halloween

Well, I know this is a really late time to be posting Halloween stuff, but I must share about our interesting Halloween events. Daniel and I of course did not do too much on the actual Friday of Halloween night. We did our usual Friday night ritual of eating at La Hacienda and hanging out with some friends. On Saturday night after Halloween, we had an interesting night of going to a costume party. We went to the costume party with our neighbors. We did not know anyone there other than the neighbors, but we quickly met some interesting folks. The most shocking costumes of the night were Adam and Eve. You may have seen the Adam and Eve costumes at Walmart, however.....these costumes were altered. The lady that was wearing the costume had used materials such as panty hose, cotton balls, etc. to add anatomically correct body parts under the leaves to the costumes. It was definitely a sight to see. As you can see in the pics, Daniel and I did not have matching costumes. I was a mafia gangsta and Daniel was a vampire.Needless to say...we did not win the best costumes contest.

Blogging

So this blogging thing is all very new to me. In fact....I'm usually pretty anti-personal Internet stuff (myspace, facebook, etc), but I figured it would be alright to have a blog. It might take me some time to figure out some blog-worthy subjects, but I guess this will do for now. After reading my sister Christy's blog for so many months, I finally became convinced that it might be fun to write about whatever I would like and have people read it from their own computers at home or when they are supposed to be working. :)
